In the Process:
Originally, Bell was experimenting with harmonic telegraph during his days teaching at Pemberton, but while doing so, he had a new idea. He wanted to transmit speech through wires. He researched in sound and attempted to perform experiments that would transmit musical notes and articulate speech. He had a intense tight schedule examining his research while also teaching but he continued to do both. After years of trying, on June 2, 1875, Bell’s partner, Watson, had accidentally plucked one of the reeds and Bell, at the receiving end of the wire had heard the overtones of the reed, the overtones that would be necessary for transmitting speech. That day, his work had payed off and in the following year, Bell filed an application at the patent office. On March 10, 1876, Bell had officially made the telephone.
Telephone Usage Data 2013:
In 2013, the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project had released the data for cellular ownership in America and states according to the survey conducted between April 17 and May 19 of 2,252 adults, 91% of those adults own a cellular device. This data does not provide the exact amount of users of cellphones, a device built from the foundation of telephones, in America, however it does give an idea of how many people use the device.
